(Apollo is available at stud to approved bitches)
Apollo is from my third litter, but out of my first litter in my second generation. To say I didn't expect to get this far with a dog so soon is an understatement.
Kintla was bred to Hobey before Covid really became a major problem in the states. She came home, stayed with me for a month and a half, then, because Covid had me working odd hours in high stress situations, I took her to Sarah Moore of Vintage Boxers just two hours south of me to whelp her litter, especially with Kintla being a softer dog and me not knowing how she would handle being a mom. And of course Montana shut down the day after I dropped her off.
But I just wanted the peace of mind that she was with someone who knew how to handle an emergency situation in case something were to happen. Thankfully the whelping went off without a hitch, very quick and easy.
Kintla herself was a semi nervous mom, but having been raised in a pack environment, and suddenly without a canine buddy, Sarah introduced a female Corgi. Myra came in, Kintla relaxed, and the rest was history.
So Kintla spent the first three weeks with Sarah and her daughter, Mackenzie, being the spoiled mama dog she is. Six fat, healthy puppies who got the best start in life they possibly could, and one of those was Apollo, with the little smudge on his face.
I met Sarah and Mac half way between here and there, she picked up Apollo and said "This one".
I started stacking the litter the next week, having given them a week to settle into their new home, with their new pack members, who during the evening when I was home, had full access to the puppy pen. Spunky of course went in and sniffed around them, cleaned them up a bit, and occasionally laid in there with them.
Grandma Tipsy went in a couple times, but at 9 years old it was "not my circus, not my monkeys". She was never aggressive with them, and corrections were fair when they were around her, but she never sought them out.
But the fourth week when I started stacking them, Apollo very quickly stood out, and over the next several weeks, I stacked the litter, took pictures, and eventually I got messages on facebook from friends saying "If you don't keep this puppy, we know where you live." I wasn't PLANNING to keep a male, but because Hobey was a dog I'd wanted to breed to for some time, I kept it open, saying if a dog that just made me and everyone else go "dang", that dog would be staying.
Well... Apollo said hold my beer at 7 weeks old, and it was final by 9 weeks. Apollo wasn't going anywhere.Even through his puppy growth stages, he never hit a phase where you went "ew" or "ehhh...". He was always a well structured, handsome puppy, who was sweet as sugar and eager to be with you doing whatever you were doing.
He started his show career at 6 months old in Filer, Idaho, where out of the 3 days of shows held there, he took Winners Dog each day for a total of 3 single points, over an older, more mature dog. The following month we traveled South, with a stop in Colorado to pick up my friend Kelsey, and her pup from this litter, Artemis, to Fort Smith, Arkansas for the American Brittany Club Nationals. September.
There he took 2nd place in the 6-9 month puppy male sweeps, and nothing in the regular classes, which I didn't expect anyay being 7 months old. After that he took the winter off to grow, and mature, then came back out in May 2021 for our regular scheduled dog show season.
He picked up his first major in Spokane, WA in May, and picked up his last points in the form of a major in Blackfoot, Idaho, just three weeks later, finishing out of the bred by class at 14 months old. He went right into the breed ring where he won Selects and Opposites, and major after major between the rest of Blackfoot, and Helena, MT that September.
In October he went to Boise, Idaho with Mac and Sarah, where he finished his GCH at 18 months old, going Best Opposite Sex under Mr. John P. Wade. He finished the year as the #16 NOHS Brittany.
He went out hunting a couple weeks before the Helena shows in September, where unfortunately we didn't really have any bird contact, but he did manage to find a porcupine in a bush. Beautiful point on what I thought had to be one of two things. Either a Bird, which is what I was hoping for, or a snake, at which point he was going to go back to snake avoidance. Fortunately, and unfortunately, it was neither.
Apollo went on point, Grandma came in around, stuck her head right in, and came out covered in quills.
His 2022 season in the show ring is where things really picked up for him. Multiple Best of Breeds, Opposite Sex, majors, NOHS Group placements, and in Billings he went Reserve Best in Show and Owner Handled Best in Show, as well as 2 Regular Group 1's and a Regular Group 3!
In July he went with Sarah and Mac to Houston, Texas, where Mac showed him in Juniors at the Texas Costal Brittany Club Specialty Show, where she went Best Junior Handler, then at one of the all breed shows, won her Juniors class of 15 kids.
August he went with them to Bismark, North Dakota, where he won best of breed three out of the four shows, and they won NOHS Group 2 and Group 3 two of the four days.
He is now working on his performance titles!
